Quarries, water holes, creeks, rope swings and the like - a taste of our childhood. What better way to cool off this summer than to go seek a water hole and have a nostalgic deja vu?
It's not hard to find lists of water holes in each state, but you might recall one from your youth and going back can be a real mind scramble. The proportions, distances, size of the location all seem to change as you grow, or perhaps as you imagine them in your mind they expand.
The proverbial rope swing with knots in it is the standard for a water hole, as are privacy, sometimes in the shadows, likely with a waterfall, often times in a rock quarry.
Going as a full-fledged adult wanting to be a kid again, We'd consider bringing an inflatable inner tube, a cooler with awesome yums in it, and a hammock. I'd also consider some great summer tunes from our youth, whether it's "Splish Splash" by Bobby Darin, "Tossin' and Turnin" by Bobby Lewis, "Wipe Out" by The Safaris, "I Get Around" by the Beach Boys, "Summer in the City" by the Loving Spoonful, "Jumpin' Jack Flash" The Rolling Stones.
For me, I think CCR would do -
Here's just some of our country's magnificent offerings for water holes -
Havasu Falls, Supai, AZ
Bork Falls, IL
Frenchman's Hole, ME
Jump Creek Falls, ID
And, don't forget water shoes -
